About me

me and my story

My name is Lu Yanan (aka Amanda). I was born and raised in China. I love Chinese culture and history. I don’t want you to miss such a rich culture! Outside of teaching, reading and hiking are my routines. I also love to travel. It’s really exciting to meet different people, try local food, and immerse myself in everything from culture to language in each place. I am also an artist. I have a special interest in painting and calligraphy. Drawing different faces makes me feel more peaceful and enchanted, as does writing. As a teacher and a mother, I am very interested in learning psychology and parenting. Pedagogy can never live without psychology. I will never stop learning to become your best choice! MY TEACHING METHODOLOGY

My style of teaching follows the principles of the Communitive Language Teaching (CLT) method works together with the Audio-Lingual Method. These two methodologies focus on immersing yourself with various amounts of input and output and repetition. Every lesson you will take the language in, process it through various different grammar, comprehension, writing, and oral exercises, and then we will work on open-ended output to ensure that you are properly formulating the language on your own. I believe that language and culture are inseparable, therefore you will learn a lot about Chinese culture and tradition in my classes. All texts, readings, videos, etc. will be culturally appropriate because language and culture shape each other.

STANDARD CHINESE

It is suitable for beginners in their teens or for adults. I structure the course based on the textbooks Easy Steps to Chinese, I use Quizlet to help you remember vocabulary, which has a fun matching game and vivid pictures to help you remember them easily, I also use Google excel to record what you’ve learned in class, so you can easily review it after class. I will take care of you in and out of class.

💬 SPOKEN CHINESE

For students who want to live and work in China or watch Chinese TV series without any barriers. I will use the New Target Chinese Spoken Language from the threshold to the advanced version based on the Chinese level of the students. Each lesson will be based on a topic, through which we will learn new words and sentence structures. The course will focus more on speaking and conversational exercises that will help you talk like a native.

👩‍🎓👨‍🎓 HSK COURSE

I am interested in learning how to master a teaching job, not just in completing a teaching job. It is suitable for students who need to take the HSK test and obtain a certificate. I will provide HSK1-6 standard curriculum textbooks, workbooks, audio files and test papers to help my students learn Chinese systematically and build a solid foundation in Chinese.
